PRESENTATION

Objectives:

The aim of this course is to cover the evolutionary and developmental processes leading to the formation of the central and peripheral nervous systems (from their tissue origin to the establishment of functional neuronal networks). We will then look at the pathologies associated with alterations in these processes, making the link between molecular and cellular mechanisms, dysfunctional circuits and the observed clinical phenotype. Finally, we will look at animal models and therapies currently available or under evaluation.

In class

  • 22h of lectures
  • 22h of directed studies

PREREQUISITES

Before the start of the course, I must ...
  • Previous knowledge of functional neuroanatomy, neurotransmission and neurophysiology will make it easier to follow this course.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, I should be able to...
  • integrate the pathologies associated with alterations in these processes by linking molecular and cellular mechanisms, dysfunctional circuits and the observed clinical phenotype
  • the evolutionary and developmental processes leading to the formation of the central and peripheral nervous systems (from their tissue origins to the development of functional neural networks)
