PRESENTATION

Course Description: This course aims to equip students with essential professional skills and knowledge necessary for success in the corporate world. Students will learn how to effectively communicate and collaborate in English with colleagues, understand and navigate corporate culture, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and apply course concepts to real-world business scenarios.

The course will cover topics such as professional communication, teamwork, leadership, and ethics. There will be an ongoing emphasis on listening skills, nonverbal communication, written communication as well as presentation skills.

PREREQUISITES

Before the start of the course, I must ...
  • At least a B1 level is recommended for this course as it is conducted entirely in English. However, students who are below this level but are committed to working hard to improve their proficiency are also welcome.
  • It is important for students to be willing to communicate effectively in English in order to fully participate in class activities, discussions, oral presentations and video assignments.

  • Understand the importance of ethical behaviour and identify ethical decision-making in the workplace.
  • Communicate more proficiently in both oral and written English.
  • Have a clear understanding of the requirements for international English certification.

CONTENT

  • After an overview of the course and learning objectives, in this session, we’ll examine how a company's values, practices, and behaviors shape its overall environment. Understanding these elements is crucial for working effectively within any organization.

  • In this session, we’ll explore the essential qualities of organizational culture and how they shape the workplace, influence employee behavior, and impact company success. We’ll also examine what defines a positive or negative corporate culture.

  • In this session, we’ll examine case studies of companies that once struggled with poor corporate culture but have since implemented changes to improve. We’ll explore how these organizations are now striving to create healthier, more positive workplace environments.

  • In this session, we’ll start with a written evaluation on corporate culture, followed by group preparation for a role play. The role play will focus on resolving a workplace conflict caused by misaligned or poor corporate values, with the aim of proposing solutions to improve the work environment.

  • In the fifth and final session, we’ll conduct the corporate culture role play oral evaluation in groups. Each group will follow a running order as they present their role plays, demonstrating their conflict resolution strategies based on corporate culture issues.
