PRESENTATION

Objectives :

This course has two major objectives.

The first is to develop an approach that will help identify the dysfunctions characteristic of acquired cerebral pathologies. These pathologies include

  •     neurological diseases (with two examples: Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease)
  •     mental disorders (with three examples: depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal behavior disorder).

The second objective is to have students work on clinical applications of neurobiological knowledge on these pathologies.

The program includes

  •     Neurobiology of Parkinson's disease, Julie Dunys (Research Engineer, IPMC), 4h
  •     Neurobiology of Alzheimer's disease (Part I), Julie Dunys (Research Engineer, IPMC), 2h
  •     Neurobiology of Alzheimer's disease (Part II), Ingrid Bethus (Senior Lecturer, IPMC), 4h
  •     Neurobiology of major depression, Jacques Barik (Senior Lecturer, IPMC), 8h
  •     Neurobiology of post-traumatic stress disorder, René Garcia (Professor, LIRCES), 12h
  •     Neurobiology of suicidal behavior disorder, René Garcia (Professor, LIRCES), 12h

Course's manager(s)

, René Garcia

In class

  • 22h of lectures
  • 22h of directed studies

PREREQUISITES

Before the start of the course, I must ...
  • expertise in cell biology and murine behavioral approaches (laboratory mice and rats)
  • master knowledge of the brain's chemical substrates (neurotransmitters, neuromodulators and neurohormones)
  • master knowledge of cerebral neuroanatomical substrates and their organization (in particular limbic and cortical structures)

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, I should be able to...
  • develop an approach leading to the identification of dysfunctions characteristic of acquired brain pathologies.
  • develop skills around the clinical applications of neurobiological knowledge of these pathologies
