The course Regulation and the Digital Era examines the profound transformations of regulatory frameworks in the digital age. It explores how the rise of digital platforms, market concentration, and new business models challenge the traditional boundaries between competition policy and sectoral regulation. Combining insights from industrial organization, competition law, and digital economics, the course analyses key issues such as market power, data governance, innovation, and sustainability.
Through case studies (DMA, DSA, Big Tech antitrust cases, multi-sided markets, algorithms, and AI), academic readings, and critical discussions, students gain a deep understanding of how ex-ante regulatory tools complement or substitute traditional ex-post competition enforcement.
The course is taught in English and combines lectures, guided readings, and student presentations.
